This is the perfect place to focus on your health and well-being. Realize it with us

Welcome to SusaN Joy Yoga! I have always gravitated towards practicing different fitness programs, including yoga and meditation. However, now that I’m retired from Corporate America, I’ve spent time focusing on my own self-care by unwinding and undoing the damage from leading a stressful, hectic lifestyle hunched over a computer all day. Yikes, that was stressful — maybe you can relate? This undoing and unwinding is the primary reason why I became a Yoga and Meditation teacher, to help people reach their health goals and discover the power and healing benefits of a consistent yoga and meditation practice.

What We Do

The importance of doing yoga

I teach both Yoga and Meditation Classes. Both classes can be taken either one-on-one and group, and in-person if local, and online via Zoom. Additionally, I’m a Certified Health Coach and offer online healthy lifestyle classes to children and families, adults, and aging seniors to teach what you can do to get and stay healthy.

I also have my Ayurveda Specialist Certification, a sister science to Yoga, to further help identify which specific lifestyle and dietary habits are best for you based on your Doshas. I’m also currently in a program to get certified as a Yoga Therapist and to teach Kundalini Yoga. I have also accrued extra teaching credits to teach Restorative Yoga, Chair Yoga, and Yin Yoga. Growth is learning. My motto — Never stop being a student because each of us has something to learn from others who have something to teach.

Stress is a modern day epidemic and the virus and the variants have been tough on everyone. Modern times present hundreds of new variables that we’ve never faced before. The good news is that you don’t have to continue on the path towards burn out, crisis, fatigue, depression, or anxiety. I can teach you some tools to use daily, starting with our first session. I can show you how yoga and meditation can be part of the solution to better health. I’m passionate about applying yoga and meditation practices and principles as tools for self-care, better mental health, finding balance, and connecting with one’s own body, mind, and spirit.

As I see it, there are two types of work outs you can do. Exercise or Fitness Yoga which helps increase strength, flexibility, and stamina. The goal of Fitness Yoga is to help with cardiovascular fitness.  That’s right….it’s fast, it’s sweaty, and you up your heart rate.  You can go to any gym and get this on a treadmill, spin bike, etc., if that’s what you need and want.

Then, there is what we call Innercise or Resilience Yoga which helps you tend and befriend yourself providing physiological balance, decreasing stress hormones, reducing emotional reactivity, and improving nervous system function for better health. The goal of Resilience Yoga is to help with Nervous System Resilience and there’s science around this approach showing its effectiveness. This is slower yoga, where we learn how to breathe with movement, find balance in our body and our mind, and tend to those and our spirit on multiple levels to heal and reset. Slow, conscious yoga has benefits that are different than fast exercise. But, many people think that slow yoga is a watered down version of “real” yoga, only good for stretching and relaxing. If that’s you, you’re missing the point. Conscious, slow, mindful yoga helps balance the nervous system and optimizes brain function. It’s self-care and we all need to do it regularly, especially in these trying times.

Yoga and meditation are a way of life and they benefit your mind, your body, and your spirit. Let me help you connect the dots to a better way of living. All bodies are different and unique! Whether you want to increase your flexibility, strength and mobility, or, help reduce stress, restore balance and help retrain strained muscles, my goal is to help every student get healthy and centered in mind and body.

Yoga is not about touching your toes, it’s about what you learn about yourself on the way down!
